Renters' Rights Act Information Sheet: What Landlords Must Do

If you had a tenancy with written terms that started before 1 May 2026, you had to give every named tenant the government's Renters' Rights Act Information Sheet by 31 May 2026.

What applies to you

Your tenancy What you must give When
Started before 1 May 2026, written terms The Renters' Rights Act Information Sheet By 31 May 2026
Started before 1 May 2026, verbal agreement Written information about the key terms By 31 May 2026
Starting on or after 1 May 2026 A written statement of terms At the start of the tenancy

Missed the deadline?

Give it now and keep proof of when and how you gave it. Councils have new enforcement powers under the Act, so getting it done late is better than not at all. Check GOV.UK or a solicitor about your position.
